Summary

In this rom-com about rom-coms, in the spirit of Kasie West and Jenn Bennett, a hopeless romantic teen attempts to secure a happily-ever-after moment with her forever crush, but finds herself reluctantly drawn to the boy next door。

Perpetual daydreamer Liz Buxbaum gave her heart to Michael a long time ago。 But her cool, aloof forever crush never really saw her before he moved away。 Now that he’s back in town, Liz will do whatever it takes to get on his radar - and maybe snag him as a prom date - even befriend Wes Bennet。

The annoyingly attractive next-door neighbor might seem like a prime candidate for romantic-comedy fantasies, but Wes has only been a pain in Liz’s butt since they were kids。 Pranks involving frogs and decapitated lawn gnomes do not a potential boyfriend make。 Yet, somehow, Wes and Michael are hitting it off, which means Wes is Liz’s in。

But as Liz and Wes scheme to get Liz noticed by Michael so she can have her magical prom moment, she’s shocked to discover that she likes being around Wes。 And as they continue to grow closer, she must reexamine everything she thought she knew about love - and rethink her own ideas of what happily ever after should look like。

"Enemies-to-lovers -- it's our trope, Buxbaum"This book was like the build-up to a milestone birthday and when it finally comes, it's completely epic。 Everything about this book I loved and that's saying something considering I rarely give teen fiction novels five stars。 A romcom with SOOOOO MANY romcom references。 I am in heaven。 I basically have been living all of my teen years obsessed with romcoms and I can't think of one I haven't seen; I love romance novels for the same reason I love roman "Enemies-to-lovers -- it's our trope, Buxbaum"This book was like the build-up to a milestone birthday and when it finally comes, it's completely epic。 Everything about this book I loved and that's saying something considering I rarely give teen fiction novels five stars。 A romcom with SOOOOO MANY romcom references。 I am in heaven。 I basically have been living all of my teen years obsessed with romcoms and I can't think of one I haven't seen; I love romance novels for the same reason I love romance movies。 Each chapter begins with a quote from a romcom and it really gave me an ego boost by testing my knowledge。 When I opened the first page and I saw the first quote: "I'm just a girl, standing in front of a boy, asking him to love her" - Notting Hill I instantly got excited, started fangirling, and prayed that this book was going to live up to the hype that I gave it。 And it did。 I literally eat, sleep, breathe romantic comedies。 I'm going to start with Liz and Wes, the two neighbors who at first despise each other。 Liz is the girl hopelessly fantasizing about her happy ending even though she's just a senior in high school。 She notes that her romantic history has not been too promising, but when her childhood crush Micheal comes back to town, she knows he is 'Mr。 Right'。 At first, I really thought I was going to hate this novel because Liz constantly based her life on these romcoms: that was the first thing I noticed。 But as I kept reading I understood that that was the main criticism about her and as the novel progresses she starts to learn her way。 Wes is literally the boy next door, but ironically is he not her safe option。 He and Liz have lived next door to each other since they were kids and they are constantly bantering。 The storyline is everything I could've dreamed of。 The banter。 Their friendship。 Everything about it was flawless。 I want what they have。 Before this novel, I had just reviewed Party of Two and my only complaint about that book was that the climax was not worth the build-up。 In this novel, I felt myself longing and aching for them to be together。 And when they were fighting I wanted to physically cry because I wanted them to be together so badly。 In summation, everything about this book fits every single one of my interests。 The characters were perfect, and the rom-com theme was really the cherry on top。 。。。more

Huge thank you to @simon。audio for our gifted review copy。💕It’s been a good bit since I’ve fully swooned over a book。 As a life long fan of romantic comedies, there’s no doubt in my mind I have ridiculous expectations when it comes to love and happily ever afters。 This makes it pretty easy for me to relate to the main character, Liz。🍿The audio for this one is just incredible and the narration is just so wonderful。 You know it’s good when I find excuses to run errands。 Each chapter starts with a Huge thank you to @simon。audio for our gifted review copy。💕It’s been a good bit since I’ve fully swooned over a book。 As a life long fan of romantic comedies, there’s no doubt in my mind I have ridiculous expectations when it comes to love and happily ever afters。 This makes it pretty easy for me to relate to the main character, Liz。🍿The audio for this one is just incredible and the narration is just so wonderful。 You know it’s good when I find excuses to run errands。 Each chapter starts with a quote from a famous rom-com and I had a blast yelling out which movie it was from before the narrator。 I think I only missed one。🎉i’m still in this phase where I’m really loving love stories that have a side helping of grief。 No different with this one。 Liz lost her mother, who bolstered her love for romantic comedies years ago。 As she is finishing up high school, we see Liz navigate her own love story, friendships and more while missing her mom。 For me, this book is memorable, fun, sweet and I would read it again in a heartbeat。 。。。more

I am quite literally obsessed with this book and I’m sure it’s my new favorite rom-com。 I’m so glad I read it。 If I could give it six stars I would and not a single thing is wrong with it。 No one can convince me otherwise。

This review has been hidden because it contains spoilers。 To view it, click here。 ***Spoilers***I don't usually post spoilers but I can't review this one honestly without including a few references。 Good premise but the protagonist made choices that I usually stop reading books for: became hyper focused on making a romatic relationship happen, ditched her friends, lied, hurt family/friends, didn't see what was right in front of her - while being a bit of a cliche。 She really has no language at all to apply to baseball? All "populars" are wealthy, two-faced, and all about partying? I ended up liking her a lot more by the end of the book but the front half was a trudge。 There was also no real demonstration of the bestfriend relationship other than saying, "that's my best friend。" For a book set during a senior year of high school, I expected more friend bonding。 The writing is solid。 I will read this author again but this wasn't my favorite。 。。。more

Even without the references to romcoms there are still TOO many pop culture references。 It almost feels like the author is using Liz as a self insert when she references certain songs, books/authors, celebrities etc。 It’s distasteful and the story would have been more enjoyable if the author did not rely on referencing Popculture when describing a scene。

I liked this book。 It took me to when I was fifteen years old, came back from school exams and crashed into my bed, with air conditioner on and read wattpad。 It’s the gives off the same energy of those wattpad books really。 Nothing especial, everything that’s we’ve already read before。 So if you’re feeling heartbroken over a book, or you just finished a mind crushing one, you can take a break with this book。

See this one I feel bad about because there was nothing inherently wrong with this, I've just read two books I didn't like before this that were also unfortunately just like this。Better Than the Movies is about a girl named Liz who has a crush on a boy named Michael who just moved back to her town。 She wants to do anything possibly to get him as a prom date so she gets Wes, her annoying neighbor and friend to Michael, to help her win him。 As Liz and Wes scheme to get Michael to notice her, she c See this one I feel bad about because there was nothing inherently wrong with this, I've just read two books I didn't like before this that were also unfortunately just like this。Better Than the Movies is about a girl named Liz who has a crush on a boy named Michael who just moved back to her town。 She wants to do anything possibly to get him as a prom date so she gets Wes, her annoying neighbor and friend to Michael, to help her win him。 As Liz and Wes scheme to get Michael to notice her, she can't help but realize that hanging out with Wes isn't totally awful。I read Meet Cute Diary (just look at the cover pls it looks like the sequel to this one) and Happily Ever Afters just these past couple of days and all three of these books are so similar I want to never read this again!! The MCs all love romcoms, meet cutes, have barely to no experience in romance and yet call themselves experts because of said love of romcoms and are desperate to fall in love。 They all start after one boy but along the way !!
